New Theme, New Features on Contest Beat

October 23rd, 2007 Random

Welcome to the new Contest Beat theme - do you like the new look?

Over the past few weeks I have been working with Purnama from RentaCoder on the new theme and I must say I am pretty stoked with the results. The main things I wanted were the infamous “web 2.0″ look :D, big fonts, and some nice and phat RSS subscription buttons. It’s also the first WordPress theme I’ve actually had designed and coded from scratch and I must say I am extremely glad I got it done. So if you want a new theme yourself check out Purnama.

Aside from all the graphical and layout changes, something else new that you’ll note is the Featured Contests listing that you can see just under the header on every page of the site. I bought this feature in because out of all the submissions that I get every day, many people noted that they were willing to send money to get a more prominent position or even just to be posted about on the site! Of course I told them that all contest listings were free, but with the introduction of the new theme it seemed like a great time to introduce this feature for those people who want it. You will still be able to get your contest blogged about completely free on Contest Beat, just like they are now, but if you want to be viewed as a featured contest then check out this page.

Oh, and did I mention those phat RSS subscription tools that you can see at the top of the right hand column? Now you’ve got no excuse not to have the latest contests delivered directly to your mailbox or RSS reader.

So enjoy the theme and let me know what you think of it!

  1. I like it! :)

  2. As stated, it looks superb. It glistens. One thing, the gold stars on the right panel are not completing due to their size, or how close they are to one another. They’re overlapping each other. The ones in “Recent Comments” seem OK since they’re further apart from one another.

  3. ^^^ Well spotted - will fix that soon!
